Notes
Aldouran Glen Village was from its beginning a project aiming to provide the best possible provision of amenities and facilities for those with special needs in south west Scotland in a spirit of full integration. The first stage was to develop new natural facilities whilst we sought funding for the holiday and educational resources we wished to provide.
Funding was obtained from multiple sources and gardens, a natural wetland, and access to the local historic woodland were all put into place over a 2 year period. These facilities now exist and are there for all to enjoy, and there is now a tremendous variety of new wildlife associated with our site.
Meanwhile we suffered a serious setback when in the summer of 2004 our applications for funding from the lottery and Europe were all refused with no reasons being given. This despite an independent feasibility study which demonstrated the financial viability of what we wished to put into place, and our applications having been classed as 'excellent' by the funding bodies themselves. Unable to fund ourselves any longer (after nearly four years of largely self-funding), both we and the directors decided that with the lack of funding we should wind the charity up, having secured the future of the facilities already created.
