East Ayrshire Woodlands provides training and employment (ILM) opportunities for long term unemployed people through the planting and management of native woodlands. Social Inclusion funding has allowed the project to extend the range of training and temporary employment opportunities within the Coalfield Area and to enhance the range and nature of the environmental improvements undertaken.

East Ayrshire Woodlands is a non-profit organisation whose main role is the development and management of native and community woodlands throughout Ayrshire. Through a community facilitation project it also aims to develop and support community groups, particularly in the context of woodlands and the environment. East Ayrshire Woodlands also works with long term unemployed adults, providing vocational training and work experience geared to employment in the local land-based sector. Environmental education, particularly in the context of the 5-14 curriculum, is another key aim of the project.
