Profile
The two development groups, the Westray Development Trust, and the Papay Development Trust are working well, and are looking at and have achieved a number of varied projects, these include:
Westray Development Trust
The development of a care centre, including sheltered housing, day care facilities, catering facilities and a visiting services room.
Improved transport links for the area.
The provision of a learning centre on the island.
Pier improvements
Broadband internet access.

Westray Development Trust began in 1999 with a view to encourage and enhance their community, economic viability and industry. The Island was also given Initiative at the Edge status around this time. The Board of Directors are made up of local people who all give their time voluntarily. There are sub groups who deal with, Youth, Industry, Transport, Care Centre, Arts and Crafts, Environment, Renewables and Education.
