Sheila Durie is a consultant working in: social enterprise and social firms business planning and training (mainly mental health awareness in the workplace and strategy planning, business planning and organisational development). Also one off pieces of community-based research: projects on financial inclusion, ICT access and older people, shared voluntary sector accommodation. Member of the Equal Access Development Partnership on behalf of the Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health. Member of one of the core groups working to develop the Employability Framework for Scotland, coordinated through the Social Inclusion Unit. Author of forthcoming Scottish Executive policy document on mental health and employment. Also Associate Tutor with the Social Enterprise Academy, and a member of the European Network for Social Return on Investment.
Prior to that, since 1991, had been the manager of Forth Sector (formerly Edinburgh Community Trust). Set up and managed an organisation running five social firms and a central support unit, to create employment for people recovering from mental illness. Responsible for new business and project development, fundraising, financial management, staff, etc., including running some of the businesses myself at different times. Founder of Social Firms Scotland.
