SFDT specialises in fostering transnational co-operation and exchange between Scottish and Central and Eastern European voluntary sector organisations in order to encourage exchange of ideas and experience in developing a range of economic activities. Our particular interest is in adapting local economic development solutions and applying them in a different culture using a partnership-based approach: in May 2003 the first social firm, a hotel based on an Edinburgh guesthouse, was established in Krakow in Poland. It was developed by our trustees working in partnership with other Scottish and Polish organisations from the voluntary, public and private sectors.
