South Lanarkshire Credit Union Network was established in 1997, arising from the development of a liaison group of credit unions operating in South Lanarkshire together with the council, in order to provide a link between the council and credit unions in relation to funding. It has a range of purposes including supporting, promoting and developing credit unions within the area, shared services provision, providing opportunities for volunteering and training, and assisting the sustainability and viability of credit unions. A range of benefits are associated with the Network’s approach to joint working between credit unions. These include as a structure for funding applications, undertaking TNA, provision of local training provision, publicity and promotion activity, attending and giving feedback from external events, assisting with new regulatory requirements of the FSA and other new developments.
