BFRS is a non-profit making Scottish company limited by guarantee. It was initiated in 1997 . The Foundation is an organisation of land managers who have a collective expertise in rural and land-use diversification, who wish to share this expertise with other land-users and the wider rural community.
The objectives of the organisation are:
• to promote and advance the education of the public about working and living in the countryside
• to enhance the quality of life of rural communities through the promotion and development of a diverse and sustainable local economy
• to promote and develop the integrated management of land, wildlife and habitats
