Notes

STIR Network is a not for profit social enterprise company which aspires to a synergy of people, business and the environment resulting in a growing network of small scale micro-businesses.It started in Edinburgh in February 2003 as a result of sustainable development pilot projects run by Kilcheran Associates, sustainability consultants. STIR Network is currently based in Edinburgh and Duns, Berwickshire, serving both the local and wider communities. All of our projects are based on the same template model, aimed at rethinking business. They are composed of mixed teams of volunteers and paid staff, drawn from a wide range of society and comprising retired, unemployed, disabled people and community groups. Currently our main business is in wood recycling. Through developing, making and selling products made from wood that would otherwise have been incinerated, we hope to do our part for the environment and encourage the use of sustainable furniture. We are also looking into developing sustainable businesses in paper recycling and graphic design.
