Recycle Fife is a social enterprise with charitable status providing recycling services for aluminium and steel cans and office paper. We formed in response to the proposed new landfill site at Westfield when it became apparent that there was a clear need to increase the level of waste material recycled in Fife. Set up to divert waste from landfill through the provision of a recycling service, provide employment, training and volunteering opportunities,particularly for those furthest from the jobmarket and advance education into the fields of recycling through the provision of workshops, presentations and events.Recycle Fife was set up in June 2003 with an aim to provide recycling services close to source for every business in Fife. To date, we have over 200 recycling boxes sited at public houses, clubs, factories, community centres, bowling clubs, golf clubs and offices throughout Fife. In doing this we are not only diverting waste from landfill but are creating employment/volunteering and training opportunities. In the last year we have created 5 employment opportunities, provided 12 regular training and volunteering opportunities and given 4 New Deal Placements a stepping - stone into employment. We also provide real work placements for people with learning disabilities who are looking to build up their skills base and become team members in a busy and dynamic workplace. We also work in partnership with housing associations to provide recycling services to their householders. As a social enterprise, Recycle Fife also provides the benefits of extra volunteering and training opportunities for the local economy as well as additional income for the local economy.
