Almond Valley Heritage Trust is an independent museum that exists to preserve and interpret the history and environment of West Lothian.Through operation of Almond Valley we aim to make this heritage accessible, engaging, and enjoyed by a wide audience. The Trust is a registered charity (SC 013783) and as a registered museum, many of our activities are based around our collections. These objects and archives record and illustrate how the communities and landscapes of West Lothian have changed through the years. The collection also reflects the international importance of the Scottish shale oil industry that was once centred in West Lothian.
The Trust owes its origins to community efforts during the 1970's and 80's to preserve the 18th century Livingston Mill and establish a community farm. Volunteer and community involvement continue to contribute to the vitality of the Trust. The historic buildings, the working farm and the wildlife of the Almond greenway complement museum activities and offer of a rich and diverse environment for discovery and learning.
