Notes
Pass IT On collects donated computer equipment, adapts it and gives it to people with disabilities who live within the EH post code area. The Value of Computer Access for People with Disabilities: Donated computer hardware and software can be adapted to suit the individual skills and needs of people with a wide range of physical and learning disabilities. These bespoke systems may enable them to: - communicate more effectively with those around them - write personal letters independently (and therefore in private) possibly for the first time in their lives - develop their literacy / numeracy - play games - access the internet and e-mail - become involved in voluntary work - (re)gain access to education or the workplace. The History of Pass IT On: Martha Lester-Cribb and Sandy Kerr, who between them have more than 25 years experience of working with people with a wide range of disabilities, set up Pass IT On as a Recognised Scottish Charity in October 2002. We have many resources available to us: volunteers who are willing to help collect, build and adapt computer systems for clients; a free, secure workshop; well-established, positive relationships with many disability organisations; a good reputation with many IT donors, who will continue to supply equipment as they follow rolling programmes of upgrading their computers.
