The project works in the community to improve the general health of people. For example it will be running a food co-operative, a day centre for the elderly who are otherwise isolated at home. The project will also run a shopping delivery service for the elderly and disabled. a breakfast club and various health events.
Another particular target will be to increase the amount of fruit eaten by primary school children in the area at the expense of sweets and sugary snacks. Around 7,000 pupils will be targeted.
Volunteers on the project will learn skills and apply them to help people. These will improve the volunteers’ opportunities of employment or further training.
