The New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme is supported by ODPM's (office of the Deputy Prime Minister) Neighbourhood Renewal Unit (NRU) and administered on a regional basis by Government Offices.
NDC takes forward the Government’s commitment to tackle social exclusion in the context of the strategy 'A New Commitment to Neighbourhood Renewal: National Strategy Action Plan'
It aims to alleviate multiple deprivation in some of the country’s poorest and most deprived neighbourhoods, by putting those communities at the heart of the decision making process and giving them the resources to tackle their problems in an intensive and co-ordinated way.
The aim is to narrow the gap between these neighbourhoods and the rest of the country so that within 10 to 20 years no one should be disadvantaged because of where they live.
There are 39 NDC partnerships in England, of which ten are in London.
