Charlotte Lee – Background Information
Charlotte has 14 years experience of working in the voluntary sector in roles including :
• the Manager of an advocacy project for people with dementia and
their carers. During that time an important element of this was the
design and delivery of dementia skills training for staff working in
the voluntary statutory and private sectors.
• Deputy Manager of a residential home for adults with mental
health problems
• Manager of a counselling service for people with mental health
problems
• Advocacy Development Facilitator – this involved providing
development support and advice to both advocacy commissioners
and advocacy organisations in relation to implementing Scottish
Executive guidance on commissioning independent advocacy.
During that time she co-wrote and piloted ‘On Solid Ground’, a tool
for evaluating quality, effectiveness and positive development in
independent advocacy organisations. Charlotte and others
continue to use this tool when carrying out independent
evaluations
Charlotte also has 4 years experience of working in the statutory sector in the roles of:
• Choose Life Co-ordinator for Argyll and Bute – working with
stakeholders from statutory, voluntary and community based
organisations to develop and implement local suicide prevention
action plans. Designing and delivering training programmes
aimed at building local capacity for reducing suicide and self-harm
• Public Involvement Development Officer – based in the Scottish
Executive Health Department, supporting Managers and staff
across the NHS to implement guidance on Patient Focus and
Public involvement. This included the design and delivery of
training on a range of participatory approaches
Vital in all of the above roles was an ability to build relationships with a broad range of people and to create a safe environment for people to share ideas and experiences in a way that would foster honesty and participation.
Charlotte received a Diploma in Social Work in 1995 and has since completed Post Graduate Diplomas in Community Care and Development Management.
