The East End Endeavour is a Rival 41 C Yacht. She was fitted in the East End of Glasgow in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Young people on the Youth Opportunities Programme learned various trade skills during her fitting out in Dalmarnock in Glasgow’s East End on the River Clyde after she was donated to Glasgow. Many community people from various backgrounds and places in Scotland sailed on her over the years; this rich social history and promising future is yet to be properly unfolded. The story so far….. Sam Paterson, born in Parkhead,Glasgow crewed on her as a school kid and later sailed across to Zebrugge as part of a round Britain Cruise for unemployed young people during the 1980’s. Sam has registered a new company, in order to commit to his new role of Development Director and as a Royal Yachting Association / Maritime Coastguard Agency Yachtmaster / Cruising Instructor. East End Endeavour Ltd. is a Company Ltd by Guarantee not for profit organisation. The company’s aim is to assist in alleviating poverty by providing the unique experience of sailing on EEE to people who are disadvantaged. The organisation will also operate with commercial customers, providing teambuilding for work colleagues and adventure sailing trips for those interested and more able to afford it. Sam says: “The experience of sailing as part of a crew is a great leveller for everyone. The wonders and the rigours of living and sailing together is a unique way of providing practical learning experience to people and has a profoundly positive effect as it did with me. My life changed direction after the initial experience at 15 years of age.”
