Notes
Charity formed in 1982 for the relief from poverty by providing employment through the collection and provision of furniture to those in need within the greater Falkirk area. Developments include the protection of the environment through the collection of White Goods (Cookers, washing machines, fridges, freezers etc,) the inspection and testing of these items and their distribution to those in need through the local Social and Housing (homeless) service of Falkirk Council. A new facility which aims to close the "digital divide" by collecting Computers, monitors, and other associated equipment operates from No 18 Dundas Street, Grangemouth, and upon inspection and testing these items are made available to the general public at very low cost. Any item collected by GEL which cannot be reused in the above manner is environmentally disposed of as agreed in our licence arrangements through Scottish Environmental Protection Agency. Grangemouth Enterprises Ltd. is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee to positively address the twin problems of unemployment and poverty. GEL creates employment, provides training opportunities to enhance work skills and to supplies goods to people who need social support. The charity also believes in preserving and protecting the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill through recycling and reusing local resources. GEL have three main areas of operation: the reuse and recycling of household furniture, domestic white goods (eg cookers, fridges etc), and computer recycling.
