The Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust is a partnership between, Eigg Residents, the Highland Council & Scottish Wildlife Trust which has owned the island since 1997. The Trust has been successful in accessing funding for a number of projects which has improved the island's infrastructure & created employment. To date we have built a new pier centre which houses Shop & PO, Tearoom, Craft Shop & Trust Office all of which are rented to local people. We have completed 4 house renovations on rented properties, the work all being carried by local labour & we are working on a long term forestry project which has involved stock exclusion fencing to encourage natural regeneration, felling & planting of native species. Again all done by local labour. The island is not supplied by mains electricity so the Trust is currently working on providing an island grid powered by a combination of small scale wind, solar & hydro power.
