Scottish Enterprise provides support to social enterprises through its Business Gateway - this is either provided by SE staff or through organisations contracted to deliver the service on its behalf. Scottish Enterprise describes its remit with social enterprises as the building of capacity and sustainable employment. This is defined as increasing the proportion of earned income and a reduction in dependence on grant income. They aim to provide social enterprises with a degree of trading maturity and to increase trading income, with business support via the Business Gateway
It is not part of their remit to provide this support to start-up social enterprises. This service is more likely to be provided by a local or national intermediary organisation.
