Islay Council of Social Service arose out of the energy created by an action group set up to upgrade Islay High School to a 6 year school.
The Ileach, our long standing community newspaper, was started in 1973 as a 3 page newsletter and forum for community views to be expressed. The Ileach is now a community enterprise employing 5 part time staff to produce the fortnightly paper, and it provides a community press and telecottage.
