Eco Drama is a new social enterprise started by Emily Reid, a Level 1 award winner. Eco Drama launched its new children’s theatre show ‘The Isle of Eigg’ on the island it was inspired by on May 2nd & 3rd at the Isle of Eigg’s Giant’s Footstep Family Festival, part of the NESTA Big Green Challenge. The play was extremely well received by both children & adults and now begins its tour of Scotland’s schools, theatres and community venues. MSP Rob Gibson who was at the festival, describes the show:
“By popular acclaim the highlight of the weekend was a children's play, The Isle of Eigg, an ecological fable that had the kids in the audience shouting for more and the adults in gales of laughter. Produced by Eco Drama it should be taken on a national tour of every primary school because the youngsters who see it will urge adults to change their habits as no government leaflets will.” Rob Gibson, MSP, John O’ Groat Journal, 8th May 2009. Eigg’s extraordinary green achievements, in particular producing their sustainable electricity system ‘Eigg Electric’ have inspired this ecological fable. Through interactive storytelling, live music, eco gadgets and humorous chracters, Eco Drama brings to life an uplifting story about climate change, positive thinking & the power of community spirit.
“The Isle of Eigg was the most fun adults and children alike have had during our Big Green Challenge year on Eigg so far. Learning about climate change and what we can all achieve together to make our world a better place without fossil fuels – learn while you laugh – sums it up.” Lucy Conway, The Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust
Eco Drama is also touring educational drama workshops; - Recycling Heroes & Professor Green’s Eco Gadget Workshop. Both link with the current Eco Schools topics and can help the 97% registered Eco Schools in Scotland to achieve their Green Flag Award.
