On accepting the MBE, Gael said:

I am incredibly grateful for this recognition, but it really reflects the work of Firstport and the social enterprises we support. Across Scotland, social entrepreneurs are making a real difference in their communities, and it’s a privilege to play a small part in that.
I’ll continue to do everything I can to ensure Firstport provides the right support at the right time, empowering social entrepreneurs across Scotland to build strong, sustainable, and impactful businesses.

Professor Mark Biggs, Chair of the Firstport board, said:

Huge congratulations to Gael on this well-deserved recognition for her work to advance social entrepreneurship in Scotland. Having worked alongside Gael as Chair of the board, I have witnessed firsthand how she brings people together, leading with empathy and integrity. Whether it’s the board, her team, partners in the sector or social entrepreneurs, she has a way of inspiring everyone to step up.
