When it comes to social innovation, Scotland has a history of pioneering new ways of tackling the world’s most pressing social issues in creative ways.
The 2017 Social Innovation Competition celebrated individuals and start-up companies in Scotland with imaginative ideas to solve social issues, with a focus on culture, heritage and tourism.
Our winners were revealed at the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2017 on 7 November, and include a project to restore an iconic community building, a business boosting ethical tourism in Scotland and an organic food producer. Read more about the 2017 winners.
What do we mean by social innovation?
Your idea needs to offer new solutions to a social need, or address a need more effectively than what already exists. You must also demonstrate that your idea will lead to a better use of assets and resources, as well as new relationships amongst sectors and society.
Social innovation can happen in any sector or industry. Check out our selection of case studies for examples.
