Accessibility support at Firstport
We are committed to making our programmes, events and services as accessible and inclusive as possible for everyone.
Download the Accessibility at Firstport document, outlining the accessibility measures we provide as standard, the additional support and adjustments available on request, and how to discuss any access needs with the Firstport team.
Disability Confident Committed
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we have committed to:
- ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible when communicating and promoting vacancies
- offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the job
- anticipating and meeting accessibility requirements
- supporting team members who acquire a disability or long-term health condition, enabling them to stay in work
- at least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people
Diversity and inclusion
We’re embedding diversity and inclusion (D&I) into everything we do – ensuring fairness and representation are at the heart of our work, so every voice in our network is heard and valued.
Our diversity and inclusion (D&I) framework sets out what we’re aiming to achieve, the areas we’re focusing on, and the practical steps we’ll take to create a more inclusive organisation.
Since 2020, our D&I working group has formalised our commitments. In 2024, our new D&I framework provided a clear roadmap for action, strengthening recruitment, communication, and training.
So far, we have:
- delivered training, including internal learning on unintentional discrimination with EqualiTeach
- started embedding diversity and inclusion into our board-level governance
- amplified the perspectives of diverse social entrepreneurs including disability inclusion and the experience of being a black social entrepreneur.
Our work has been recognised by the National Centre for Diversity through an Investors in Diversity accreditation (2021, 2023, 2025) and as a Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplace (2022, 2023, 2025).
In 2024, we also produced the Access Report with Dechomai and Social Investment Scotland, highlighting barriers ethnic minority social entrepreneurs face to investment.
Flexible Workplace Accreditation
We are one of the first organisations in the UK to achieve Flexible Workplace Accreditation, recognising employers that make flexible working, work in practice.
Launched by Flexibility Works, leading experts on flexible working, the accreditation provides independent recognition for organisations where flexible working is embedded in culture, leadership and everyday practice, not just written into policy.
Living Wage Accreditation
Firstport are proud to be accredited as a real living wage employer. This accreditation celebrates Firstport’s commitment to go further than the minimal wage, and pay staff a fair and liveable wage.
Pathways Pledge
Firstport is proud to be a signatory of the Pathways Pledge, a Scotland-wide initiative led by Pathways Forward that brings organisations together to improve opportunities for women and underrepresented founders. The pledge encourages meaningful, measurable action to create a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
We dedicated our first year to collecting and analysing data to identify where women and minorities face barriers to our funding. With those insights, we have expanded our Access Catalyst programme.
